What kind of Receiver are you?

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
2 Corinthians 2:15

I once had a Secret Pal at my workplace. We would draw names every year for our secret pal. Throughout the year we would by gifts for our Secret Pal on holidays, their birthday and anniversary plus any other special day. My secret pal was Susan. My desk was close enough to Susan’s desk that I could see her from my desk. So whenever she would get a gift from me, I got to watch her open it and see her expression. I had so much fun that year because Susan loved everything. No matter what I got her she always loved it. It truly was as much fun for me as it was for her.

Have you ever got excited about giving something to a person and couldn’t wait to give it to them. However, when you gave the gift that person looked disappointed at the gift or made comments about how much they wanted some other brand, style, color or other item period. It doesn’t feel so good. Especially, after you had put so much thought and energy into deciding what to buy. After trying so hard.

What kind of receiver are you? Have you ever been the one that received a gift and expressed disappointment? Or even expressed anger? I believe our non- appreciation of someone else’s efforts is wrong in God’s eyes. It’s as if we are saying "What I want is more important than you, your efforts, your feelings and your money." Although we may not like every gift we receive, we should appreciate the person giving the gift.

I believe God is no different in that He wants us to appreciate the gifts that He gives us - Especially the greatest gift ever – the gift of Jesus Christ.

So this Christmas receive your gifts with gratitude and appreciation whether from God or from a loved one. Merry Christmas!
