    Don’t Turn Back

The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle. Psalm 78:9

This scripture comes from a Psalm that speaks of God’s kindness to a Rebellious Israel. This scripture tells us they had what they needed. They were armed for battle. God had given them the weapons they needed for the battle. God had equipped them. And they still turned back in the day of battle. In other words, they gave up when things got hard. They could have won the battle instead of turning back.

In I Timothy 6:12, we are told to "Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses." We are in a fight every day, a spiritual fight. Ephesians 6 tells us to "put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes" We must be prepared for this battle of our faith. We must know what our weapons are and how to use them. We learn what they are through reading God’s word.

Prayer is one weapon we all have. There is so much power in a prayer backed with faith and the word of God. We are repeatedly told in the Bible that if we believe, God will give us whatever we ask in Jesus’ name.

God is always with us and will help us fight every battle we will ever be in. Romans 8 tells us that if God be for us who can be against. Therefore, we know that as long as we have God on our side, we will win no matter how hard or how long the battle is.

I want to be able to say what the Apostle Paul said in II Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Wouldn’t you like to say the same?
