Ginger's Bread Crumb . . .
The Good Witch Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 The Good Witch? Is there such a thing. There is a new movie coming to television called "The Good Witch." The movie appears to be a light-hearted, cute movie about a beautiful woman helping people with her magic. I am truly grieved at movies and TV series that portray something evil and of the devil as something that is Good! I ask you, can a person have magical powers and be good? Jesus said there is only One that is Good- God. What is good? Good is the opposite of Evil. There are many, many things in our society about mediums, witches, fortune tellers, psychics, clairvoyants, telephathics, horoscopes, soothsayers, palm readers, spiritualist, card readers, people claiming to talk with the dead. There are many different terms used. Some old and from the bible others new and modern. It doesn’t matter if you give it a new modern twist or have it portrayed by a beautiful woman - Evil is still evil. The bible warns us very strongly against such practices, it even tells us that such people that practice these things will be destroyed. When we read about this people in the bible, we envision ugly people that are dressed in dark clothes and appear mean. Yet the actual appearance is irrelevant. We all know looks are deceiving. Remember even Satan comes as an angel of light. (2 Cor. 11:14) You see you can come up with a modern names, beautiful actors, cute movie plots even portray the evil as being helpful and beneficial but it is still what it is. Many even try to portray the person as having power to talk with the dead and to make peace for the loves ones left behind. I am sorry to tell you they are not talking with the dead - maybe demons, but not to the dead. None of this is of God or from God. So why do Christians justify watching such films or shows and allow compromise in their home? If a person has any power that is not of God - it is literally demonic!!! It isn’t a harmless tale. No matter how innocent society and Hollywood make it seem. One summer, I wasn’t working and spent a lot of time with our children. I made up some lessons and projects for the older kids. However, I had to give Jenny something simple since she was so young. Her assignment was to pretend she was going to get someone to take some poison the next day and how would she do this. Jenny came up with some cleaver ideas. Her main idea was to disguise the poison in some food and pretend to be making breakfast for the person. After the lesson, I showed how the devil does the same thing with us. If a six year old could come up with such a good plan then I am sure our old enemy has been around long enough to have a few good tricks! Additional Scripture Study: Deut. 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 2 Chron. 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. Isaiah 47:9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. Ezekiel 13:23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord. Isaiah 47:13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Micah 5:12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers: Acts 8:9-11 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: [10] To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. [11] And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. Acts 13:6-8 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus: [7] Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. [8] But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Rev. 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
